Why’s it astonishing? From what little I could gather from context, they’re an American (1) politician (2). Two completely separate reasons why they would fail to appear on any list of people I’d have any plausible reason to know about them.

So, in conclusion, yes, someone who is literally interpreting the opposite of what is written is indeed more stupid than someone who is understanding and accepting all the facts I am giving.
